The Beatles
Abbey Road
(1969)An album with music as iconic as its cover, once again carried by a splendid Lennon-McCartney composition. Side one happily delivers bluesy and pop music drenched in psychedelic mood while side two is a piece composed of puzzle tracks with orchestral parts and colorful alterations.

King Crimson
In The Court Of The Crimson King
(1969)A lunatic album that starts with a strident sound but then inverts the mood with soft songs to ultimately display a memorable symphonic performance. The soft parts are held by Greg Lake's vocals and Ian McDonald's flute and clarinet, while Robert Fripp and Michael Giles implicitely put Jazz in the compositions. Just like the cover of the schizoid man, when focusing on specific parts, a veriety of emotions can be interpreted, but overall, an abandonned feeling leaves the biggest trace in the listening experience.

Soft Machine
Volume Two
(1969)
Black Sabbath
Paranoid
(1970)The album is the quintessence of what is traditional Doom music and defines on a larger note Heavy Metal. Toni Iommi and Geezer Butler borrow psychedelic elements and groove touch to compose the music, wrapped with Bill Ward's prompt drumming. While not being a Prog-core album, Paranoid smells occult music and its sound is definitely influenced by the genre.

Trespass
(1970)A cold mood surrounds the music with a few happy fantasy moments. Peter Gabriel's theatrical vocals fit the sophisticated sections of Anthony Phillips's and Michael Rutherford's folk guitars as well as Anthony Banks's and John Mayhew's unleashed symphonic keyboards and drums. A lot of thoughts have been given to render the calm moments a little bit sweet but distant.

Sweet Smoke
Just A Poke
(1970)Two big smooth tracks in the middle Jazz and Rock music, heavily influenced by psychedelism and groove, with hummed vocals. Both tracks are split into sections with rhythm variations and modality changes, but still perfectly flows from start to finish. The music is warm, rousing, captivating - when not completely mezmerizing.

(1971)A dark fantasy atmosphere is present throughout the album, varying from wonderful, melancholic, bewitching acoustic instrumentals and possessed vocals by Roger Wootton and Andy Hellaby, painting music landscapes perfect for fatalistic folk stories from old tell-tale books.

Moving Waves
(1971)Directed by Thijs Van Leer's alchimistic ideas and Jan Akkerman's grandiose guitar playing, Moving Waves starts with a scatterbrained hit track, followed by blue and instrumental-driven music. It ends on an eruption of a pure progressive Rock, 22-minute symphony, using the best of the musician's abilities to create a fulfilling and magical grande finale.

Frank Zappa
Apostrophe (')
(1974)The first part of the album tells the story of a dream Frank Zappa had: as Nanook the eskimo, Zappa encounters eccentric happennings foretold by a foolish prophecy, eventually atending a crazy breakfast party. The whole album is soaked with a bluesy mood, spiced-up with psychedelic music and Jazz parts using a large asset of instruments, and topped with funny lyrics.

Frank Zappa
Roxy & Elsewhere
(1974)At their peak of their creativity, The Mothers Of Inventions performed several live concerts at the Roxy in the late 1973. The album captures the absolute best of Frank Zappa's genius and the band's musicality and musicianship. From funny bits to lively Jazz Rock arrangements, all with a stunning sound, these memorable performances create a fantastic, joyful moment where every bandmate can display their fabulous skill in an organic way.

The Butterfly Ball And The Grasshopper's Feast
(1974)Roger Glover gathered a lot of music performers to create a Rock Opera based on the eponym children's poem. This results in a colorful and enthusiastic piece with as much vocals as there are characters, and folkloric instruments to carry the cliché of old fantasy storybooks.

Supertramp
Crime Of The Century
(1974)Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson composed heavy-hearted songs to create one of the most subtle, most magnificient, most moving albums we could imagine, with intense vocals and lyrics as desperate as the cover. The album is a theater of unregular song structures and piano-driven melodies, where the other instruments complete parts here and there so that almost every song is a climax itself.

(1977)A Space Rock symphonic album divided in four long tracks, lifted with clear basslines by Klaus-Peter Matziol and deep use of Detlev Schmidtchen's synthesizers that sometimes create an atmospheric doom atmosphere - Frank Bornemann's guitars being in the background. Jürgen Rosenthal, fascinated by the myth of Atlantide since always, decided to make it a concept album in which he sings how mankind lost paradise it was given, by its violent behavior.

Sacred Baboon
(1989)Originally recorded in 1976, this album did not draw enough attention to sign the band with a label. One can wonder why though, as the music is as complex as interesting: technical parts, original harmonies, rhythm breaks, a large assets of instruments ; anything that can be used to change the mood of the music is used efficiently. Sacred Baboon may be one of the earliest examples of self-produced Math Rock music blent with pure symphonic style of the early 70's.
